I bought the white Sangeon and am very impressed with the sound quality and the looks. I love the white, it looks great in the kitchen, but every time you turn the radio on the light flickers for about five minutes. I am wondering however, if I got a returned product. The box, like another reviewer stated, showed the wood version but inside was the white radio. Almost as though it is a flourescent light with a broken ballast. Trying to decide if I should return or not.
The Sangean WR2 radio was a lot heavier than I thought it would be.well made, sounds great. It tells you what song is playing and the artist,so if I like the song,I can write the info down and purchase it.It also has a nifty alarm clock I recommend it highly.--Mario
The RDS is useful as well. I just bought the WR-2 in white finish for a bathroom remodel that I am finishing up. The sound quality and features are about as good as you could find on a radio these days. Separate backlight dimmer settings for ON and OFF is a nice feature. But I bought this as a radio - not a clock or alarm clock, so that's why I give it 5 stars. Reception on the AM band is very good - something missing in most radios for the last several decades.
This radio is fairly heavy, which I think reflects it's quality. As has been mentioned in other reviews, it's not the most straightforward design for clock setting or other user settings - don't loose the manual. I already have one with walnut finish, purchased almost three years ago. While the white finish on the new unit will blend nicely with ceramic tile, the walnut finish is more attractive/appropriate for most applications. Having jacks for both auxiliary input and output is great, enabling mp3 player playback and recording. The remote works as intended, but is small and easily misplaced (I probably won't need it in the bathroom). Also, the clock tends to run a little fast.
Then I tried to find a way to tune to those FM sub-stations, I can't find a way to do it. when I opened the package from amazon.com. I got to the Sangean's web site, and called them. I ordered a white one, but the package box is for the walnut color. The first thing that I noticed was the usual statics from AM radio stations. When I turned on the radio, all five preset buttons have already been set to my local radio stations. This one has "digital" in the name, somehow, I thought that it is a HD radio.
So obviously, amazon sent me a used radio even though it looks new from outside. but inside, it is still the white radio. and i paid the price for a new radio. and you can get many more FM stations, too.
I have heard enough about HD radio, so I saved enough gift certificates, and finally bought this "new" "digital" radio. After all, it costs just as much as a HD radio. It is not. I was surprised by that. ---If you are thinking about buying a HD radio, don't buy this one. And the sound quality might even be better. And if you really want a good tabletop radio, just add 20 or 30 dollars more, buy yourself a HD radio, from what I read, the sound quality will be far more better. i thought that i got lucky, because it costs a little extra for the walnut color. They told me that this radio is not a HD radio.so I immediately packed the radio, and sent it back to amazon via UPS.
there is probably an amazon center close by where i live, that is why somehow all those 5 preset radio stations are all in my local area. I did my search several times on amazon with different keywords to find what products they have. This unit only has one speaker, even though the FM sound quality is pretty good, but you can buy a pretty good radio with CD player or tape player in one unit for less than $100. Therefore, I rate this radio a 3, it is just too expensive for a plain radio.
Did a great deal of research before purchasing this product. Am very, very satisfied. The sound quality is excellent and I love the bright readout. Highly recommend.
